Orkin Canada – Helping Maintain the Bee Population

At Orkin Canada, we are not just pest control experts – we also want to ensure that the future of the planet is sustainable and play our part to secure the future of these amazing pollinators for the future generations.

We have welcomed over 5,000 honeybee tenants at our Burnaby, Coquitlam, Calgary, Mississauga, and Halifax branches. These amazing honeybees are cared for and supported by our partner Alvéole, who ensure that the health and enhancement of our bee population is thriving.

The Importance of Pollinators

Did you know that bees are responsible for pollinating over 130 varieties of fruit and vegetables? That’s over a third of the food we eat!

Bees are known as the “farmers” of the insect kingdom, as they play a part in almost every aspect of our daily lives. They support the growth of different flora from trees and shrubs to flowers and grass, which serve as food and shelter for other animals both large or small. Bees also contribute to complex, interconnected ecosystems that allow a diverse number of different species to co-exist. There is no doubting that bees play a vital role in our daily lives. Without them, our gardens would be bare and our plates empty.

Here is a quick video from our resident entomologist, Dr. Alice Sinia. As she explains the importance that honeybees and pollinators have on our natural world.
