Pest birds like pigeons, sparrows, and starlings may be common, but when they start nesting in vents, signage, or rooftops, they create serious health risks and costly damage. From property erosion to vent blockages and dangerous droppings, professional bird removal services are often the only effective solution.

Whether you’re a business owner dealing with birds in vents or signage, or simply wondering how much does it cost to remove birds from a vent, Orkin Canada has you covered. We offer customized, humane bird control solutions backed by local Orkin Bird Control Pros with proven results.

Why Bird Control Matters

Health Risks

  • Disease transmission: Droppings may contain harmful pathogens like E. coli, salmonella, and histoplasmosis.
  • Parasites: Birds can carry mites, fleas, lice, and ticks—all of which can spread to humans and pets.
  • Contamination: Nesting in vents or food service areas can compromise air quality and sanitation.

Property Damage

  • Blocked vents: Birds nesting in vents can lead to poor airflow, fire hazards, or HVAC system failure.
  • Structural erosion: Droppings contain uric acid, which corrodes stone, metal, and concrete over time.
  • Facility interruptions: Large flocks can disfigure landscaping, signage, and rooftops, and cause slip hazards for customers or staff.

Orkin Canada’s Bird Control Process

Step 1: Inspection & Identification

Your local Orkin Bird Control Pro begins with a thorough inspection to identify the bird species, nesting sites, and damage. We confirm the species is not protected before removal begins.

Step 2: Customized Bird Removal & Prevention Plan

We build a plan tailored to your building’s needs. Options may include:

Bird Deterrents & Bird Exclusion

When it comes to making a property unattractive to birds, exclusion and deterrent methods are the ideal solution. These can include a variety of different tactics such as netting, bird wire, pyrotechnics, along with a host of other approaches customized to your facility.

Bird Trapping

Depending upon the size and resilience of the flock, trapping can be a necessary part of an effective bird control program. Offering quick and humane removal of pest birds, a trapping approach ensures that the birds have access to food, water, shelter, sufficient space to move around within the trap in accordance with government regulations. Additionally, your local Orkin Bird Control Pro will regularly check the traps to ensure the necessities are being provided and humanely removes any pest birds within it.

Birds of Prey Pest Bird Abatement Services

Keeping pest birds such as pigeons, seagulls and Canadian Geese off your commercial property can be a time consuming and expensive process. Orkin Canada’s innovation and eco-friendly birds of prey program can be an ideal solution when bird proofing isn’t an option due to physical limitations. Whether you’ve tried conventional methods like decoys and noise makers or you are looking for a humane and effective bird deterrent, Orkin Canada can help.

Habitat Modification

In order to ensure that your property remains bird-free, habitat modification is an important part of an effective commercial bird control program. Your Orkin Bird Control Pro looks for possible sources that may be attracting birds to your property and will advise on how to effectively modify the area to ensure that it is no longer attractive to any roosting birds.

Pest Bird Dropping Clean-Up & Disinfection

Your local Orkin Bird Control Pro will apply a disinfectant to the area in order to ensure a sanitary space to treat. This process reduces an area’s nesting fidelity; the likelihood that a bird will come back to a place where they have nested in the past. By reducing nesting fidelity, pest birds have a lower likelihood to return to your commercial property, as the evidence, such as droppings, have been removed from the area.

Step 3: Nest Removal (if possible)

Once the nest is inactive, your local Orkin Bird Control Pro may safely remove it, but this will depend on the species and any provincial or federal regulations .

What Are The Common Pest Birds In Canada?

Rock Pigeons

In urban environments, pigeons prefer to nest in the artificial cliffs created by tall urban buildings with accessible ledges and roof spaces. These birds are commonly known as “sky rats” because of their ability to transmit potentially fatal diseases like salmonellosis, toxoplasmosis, and tuberculosis to people. Their feces can be deadly, as it can contain deadly fungal and bacterial diseases which is especially dangerous for people with compromised immune systems.

European Starlings

European Starlings are noisy nuisance birds that can do serious harm to humans, pets, and livestock. These pest birds can transmit parasites, like mites, fleas, and bat bugs, as well as potentially fatal diseases, including histoplasmosis, salmonellosis, toxoplasmosis, and chlamydiosis. Additionally, the combined weight of a flock of European starlings – which can be up to 20,000 birds in the winter – can break branches and disfigure trees making it a hazard for any structure nearby.

House Sparrows

Sparrows typically live near humans because it provides them with some security from natural predators. Sparrows transmit diseases which affect humans, pets and livestock. Some of these can be fatal, including beef tapeworms, chlamydiosis, erysipeloid, Newcastle disease, salmonellosis, schistosomiasis, and toxoplasmosis.

These pest birds also wreak havoc on commercial properties; deface buildings and facilities with their nests and droppings. If a nest occurs in a heavily infested location, Sparrows can be surprisingly aggressive, often attacking any potential threat to their nest.

Canadian Geese

Canadian geese can be more than a nuisance for commercial property owners, as these birds can carry and have the potential to transmit a variety of pathogens that can severely impact the health of your customers and staff. These pathogens can include avian influenza, salmonella, and Campylobacter. Geese can also carry ectoparasites such as fleas, biting lice, and bird mites.

Canadian geese can be very aggressive and can injure humans and pets if they attack. These geese can also overgraze on lawns and leave droppings on pathways around hospitals, school campuses, and public parks, potentially damaging the property. They also cause issues for crop growers, as these pest birds can consume crops, resulting in a reduction in the yield and increased soil erosion. They are hazard to aircrafts near airports. They contaminate water bodies such as ponds, drinking water sources and can also damage ornamental plants. It is important for commercial property owners to have a professional goose control program in place to mitigate some of the issues associated with these pest birds.
