The Incredible World of Bugs
Orkin PCO is proud to present The Incredible World of Bugs Traveling Exhibit. This tour entertains, engages and enlightens the general public about the strange and fascinating world of butterflies and insects.
Come and discover the fascinating world of insects, bugs, butterflies and much more. Witness many different types of creatures and species of all assortments. From rare beetles, giant spiders and brilliant butterflies, learn all the interesting facts about these tiny bugs and how they contribute to our daily lives and the environment all around us.
The goal of the exhibit is to raise public awareness of the vital role these creatures play in our daily lives. They pollinate our crops, supply us with honey, silk, medicine and they help ensure our future.
The exhibit provides children, community groups, adults and educators the opportunity to see up close, real butterfly, moth and insect specimens collected from around the world and to interact with our on-site exhibit creator/manager: Mr. John G. Powers.
It also provides school groups with the opportunity to learn about the many current world issues which are impacting the eco-systems which these creatures exist within and how these issues are directly affecting the lives of butterflies and insects and in turn our lives.
Each year Orkin PCO Services finances approximately 20 of these exhibitions across Canada in the hope that by raising public awareness to the many issues that are impacting the Incredible World of Bugs, that governments, educators, researchers and the general public will rally to address these issues, create and implement sustainable solutions and affect positive change that will ensure the stability of the butterfly and insect eco-systems in Canada and around the world.

Did You Know?
- Insects collect or make such useful products as silk, bees wax, honey and shellac.
- The greatest number of legs reported for a millipede is 375 or 750 legs.
- Only termites have Kings.
- Butterflies taste buds are located in their feet.
- A nest of wasps or yellow jackets at the height of summer may have a population of 5,000 individuals and as many as 25,000 may live in the nest and die in the course of a season.
- There are more than 3,000 species of mosquitoes, 3/4 of these live in the tropics or sub-tropics. About 160 species are known in North America.
- The weight-lifting champion is by far the ant. A typical ant can lift 50 times its own weight.
- One pair of rats shed more than one million body hairs each year and a single rat leaves 25,000 drops a year.
- The loudest of all insects is the Cicada. Its organs pulse at a rate of 7,400 pulses per minute and produces a noise that can be heard more than 1 1/3 miles away.
- Mosquitoes occur in greatest numbers in Arctic and Sub-Artic regions - the flood tundra makes an ideal breeding ground.
